  • I'm going to write a little about Don Mayfield. Not the hogwash I read or the stories he told while in La-La Land. In my opinion he mentally changed as he got older. He talk lots of stuff that was off in left field. He was a good dog-man. He could condition a dog as good as anyone and better than most. He told stories that I read that were not written by the Mayfield I use to know when he was younger. He wrote a book and told of defeating me in a dogfight. I never did match him in a dogfight. He handle one of the Heair boy's little bitches called Chandler's Tish. The Heair boy's dog whipped a dog sent to me by the so called dog-man Bud Reece. Which was never tested by me and was supposed to be a two time winner. She was one sorry little bitch. I never did match a dog after that without a test. It didn't matter how many fights it was suppose to have won. I tested it first. Tish lost a match and quit so the bigger Curr won in our match. When Don handled for someone and lost it was always the owners loss. If the dog won it was always written up as a Don Mayfield's Victory. I'm not taking away from his accomplishments. He was a great dog-man with much knowledge and and many wins. He did whip some of the best. I saw his Nigger dog quit when A.B. Forsythe had him. His name was Black Shine back then. Some good dog-men have made the statement that Nigger didn't quit. Lets pretend we are in a court of law and Judging if Nigger quit or not. The fact is. Nigger was owned by 7 different people in his lifetime. He was at 7 different homes. If you weren't at all 7 homes at the time Nigger was at 24/7. Then you can't  positively say he didn't quit. If you didn't see him quit. That doesn't mean he didn't. There was three witness there at the time. One witness is dead. That kind of testimony will stand up in court. That kind of bull stating Nigger didn't quit. Especially when no person could have been at all 7 homes at all times. That kind of statement will not stand up in court. Anyway it doesn't matter. He was a good sire and produced many good winners. Boudreaux said that him and his buddies whipped Mayfield twice. I was there at one of Boudreaux' and his buddie Fred Williamson's win over Mayfield & Gilman  and can vouch for his victory over Nigger's son the 'Gomer dog'. Mayfield will always be one of my heroes as well as Boudreaux. Mayfield had all kinds of theories about Boudreaux and threw many insults at Boudreaux. They were theories not facts. Boudreaux is equally a great dog-man. I liked Mayfield and thought the world of him and his dogfight abilities. Yet facts are facts.
